Isa Town Gate nearly ready

Work on the BD160,000 ($432,000) Isa Town Gate is expected to be completed in the first week of September, a Ministry of Housing, Municipalities and Environment official has said. The gate, one of the country's main landmarks, was originally built in 1973.

It was demolished in December last year to make way for an identical gate, bearing the same features of the old one but using state-of-the-art building techniques and material.

The new gate, originally designed by architect Mohammed Makiya, includes Quranic verses and Arab architectural designs.

The main contractor for the project is the Bahrain-based Projects SA. The gate will have a pavement on either side to protect it from vehicles.
