Construction work on the $22 million 7,500 sq m Giant Stores in Al Massa Mall in Bahrain has begun with the opening set for early next year.
This will be the Saudi franchise's first overseas outlet. The venue will be part of the 36,000-sq m complex being built north of the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre.
Giant Stores will have a staff of 1,000 and contain 85,000 different items categorised and displayed in food, non-food and household sections. In addition to the supermarket/department store, it will operate a 3,000-sq m amusement centre.
Marketing manager Zouhair Seklawi said the company's retail investments totalled more than $300 million and the Bahraini store would be the eighth in the chain.
