AWAR – Bahrain has made sure that the foodservice and laundry facilities of the King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) are equipped with the latest equipment that will provide maximum output and efficiency.
The specialist in laundry and foodservice equipment accorded top priority to the KHUH project, which meant it had very little time to handle other ongoing projects, says Fadi F Shatat, the company’s new managing director.
“Intensive coordination with more than 90 international equipment suppliers for the project was a challenge, as the supply lead time for some equipment was more than nine months,” he says.

Awar supplied and installed more than 800 pieces of equipment distributed in the preparation areas, cooking and hot kitchen, pot and dishwashing, distribution area, and cold and freezer rooms at the central kitchen, staff cafeteria and public café. It also supplied and installed barrier washer extractors, dryers, automated linen mono-rail, dirty linen refrigerated storage, and finishing and pressing equipment at the laundry facility.
The company started work in March 2009 on the project, which is now in the commissioning stage.
Commenting on the KHUH, Shatat says: “It is the first hospital of its kind in the region, which will offer excellent medical and supporting services to patients. It is expected to be upgraded regularly and Awar – Bahrain is ready to take any future works related to its specialisation.”

Awar’s sphere of activities covers the supply and installation of industrial food service and commercial laundry equipment, and mechanical contracting. With a team of 15 people, it is capable of providing various tailor-made solutions for kitchens in diverse applications ranging from luxury hotels to hotels and for laundry facilities including launderettes, hotels, health-care institutions and commercial laundries. The company offers innovative solutions to ensure that its customers’ operations are run efficiently and to the highest hygiene and safety standards.
Apart from KHUH, the firm has been involved in a number of notable projects in the recent past including Royal Golf Club, Ibis Hotel, Riffa Views International School, private palaces, and Bushido restaurant.
Undeterred by the general economic scenario, Awar is looking at expanding and is in the process of establishing a new showroom in Manama.
The company is pleased with the potential offered by the Bahrain market and is currently executing projects for two four-star hotel kitchens and commercial laundry facilities.
“We are seeking future business in one or two prestigious projects that have been announced and expect our turnover to increase over the previous years,” says Shatat.
