ZAMIL Architectural Industries (ZAI) has played a key role in the King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) project. The company has fabricated and supplied all the cladding that enhances the aesthetics of this distinctive building.

The Saudi-based façade systems manufacturer supplied a total of 32,300 sq m of aluminium composite panel (ACP) cladding. This is one of the major items that it has fabricated for the project. Other items include aluminium louvres (2,150 sq m), slot windows (5,300 sq m) and curtain-walls (2,300 sq m). The company’s scope of work involved supply of materials that have been fabricated, according to the specifications and sizes required by the project, along with supervision during installation.

Zamil Architectural Industries (ZAI) was awarded this order worth SR16 million ($4.26 million) which was completed in February 2010.

“The King Hamad University Hospital is a remarkable project due to its unique nature,” says a spokesman for the company. “It has been designed considering the requirements of hospital facilities where a lot of louvres and shading solutions are involved.”

The project marks a successful year for ZAI, during which it managed to double its sales to SR160 million ($42.66 million), compared to the previous years despite of the current economic downturn.

ZAI started out as a façade system manufacturer which also provided skylights. The company is divided into three divisions, namely, aluminium and stainless steel works, shade-guards with high density polyethylene (HDPE) and (PVC) polyvinyl chloride membrane and gates and doors. All the divisions provide a comprehensive range of services extending from the designing stages to installation and maintenance, says Abdullah H Al-Zamil, vice-president.

“Other products manufactured by the aluminium and stainless steel division include aluminium skylight products of various types – dome, barrel vault, segmented, and pyramid using double glazing or polycarbonate sheets, handrails and other balustrades both in mild steel and stainless steel with or without glazing as per client’s requirements and aluminium louvres include bull nose and screen types,” says Khalid Al-Sayed, sales manager.
