WITH a business ethos that focuses on innovation and a drive to serve the region with top-quality products, Bahra Cables Company believes it is wired for success.

The firm’s high-quality electric cables are currently being installed at a variety of major projects in the GCC and wider Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region, ranging from an airport development in Senegal to a metro in Makkah.
The Saudi-based company is committed to the production of the best quality products and, therefore, uses cutting-edge European technology in its manufacturing processes.
“The firm’s focus on world-class products, services and diversification is clearly turning out to be a corporate success factor enabling the company to strengthen its presence in the region,” says a spokesman for the company. “Bahra Cables uses the latest German technology which facilitates greater productivity at a lower cost. Cables are manufactured entirely within the company’s facilities in Saudi Arabia. The core technologies in our production processes, material applications and logistic procedures are provided by German experts, with the key functions also being managed by German engineers.”
The company uses a unique computer software solution, Advaris, an ERP (enterprise resource planning) and manufacturing execution system (MES) designed especially for cables, to manage its processes right from production to delivery and invoicing, he says.
Bahra Cables has a wide product range that covers most of its customer needs. These include flexible wires and cables up to 300 sq mm, building wires, and low-voltage (LV) and medium-voltage (MV) power cables.
With its eyes firmly focused on becoming a major developer of low, medium and high-voltage cables in the kingdom, the company now intends to extend its product scope to include extra high-voltage cables up to 480 kV and conductor cross-sections larger than 2,000 sq mm. It is also planning to manufacture various copper products like copper tools, tapes and busbars catering to the electrical manufacturing sector, the spokesman says. In addition, there are plans to set up PVC (polyvinyl chloride), copper rod and wooden reels plants.
Thanks to its high-quality standards, the company’s cables have been used in landmark projects throughout the GCC and Africa. Among the largest of its recent orders was for the Al Mashaar Makkah Metro project.
The order secured in January this year involves the supply of cables and electrical wires for the metro project, which will transfer pilgrims from Mina to Arafah, Arafah to Muzdalifa and then to Mina. The 18.1-km metro line, which rises 8 m to 10 m above ground, is expected to handle 72,000 people per hour in each direction once operational at the start of the Hajj season next year.
Bahra Cables is also working on other major orders for the Princess Nora bint Abdulrahman University (PNU), King Saud University (KSU), Saudi Electric Company (overhead lines), and King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (Kaust) projects.
Apart from its local market, Bahra Cables has also contributed to prestigious overseas projects such as the Dakar International Airport, the latest and largest airport in Senegal, which is expected to accommodate two million passengers per year.
The company has ambitious plans to spread across the region and hence has been creating awareness of its capabilities in overseas market. Among such efforts, Bahra Cables participates annually in exhibitions such as the Middles East Electricity, Saudi Elenex and Wepower (Water, Electricity and Power Generation Conference and Exhibition), showcasing its extensive product range which includes state-of-the-art high, medium, and low-voltage power cables, wiring, low smoke and fume, halogen-free cables, as well as fire-resistant, control and auxiliary cables.
In line with its commitment to the environment, Bahra has recently conducted a seminar on green engineering, focusing on the development and production of goods that meet new standards in durability and reliability, and production with zero wastage.
Bahra has acquired many key certifications such as the renowned Kema certification for its range of 0.6/1-kV power cables. “Kema quality BV is a major endorsement of Bahra’s quality processes,” says the spokesman. “The company has also obtained the Saudi Arabian Standards Organisation (Saso) certification for its building wire products ranging from 450 to 750 V, and for strength cable ranging from 1 to 3 kV.
“Bahra has received UL certification for its range of thermoplastic-insulated wires and power and control tray cable, Type TC. Receiving UL certification for product safety and compliance is another major endorsement of Bahra’s quality processes. The basic standard used to investigate products in this category is UL 83, Thermoplastic-insulated Wires and Cables.”
It has also received the ISO 9001:2008 certification for its range of MV and HV (high voltage) cables up to 132 kV. Bahra is also the first Saudi cable manufacturer to receive the ISO14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 certificates, says the spokesman.
Bahra Cables Company was established in 2008 under the umbrella of the CPC Group of Companies with Electric House as partner, to serve the Saudi, GCC and Mena markets. Based in Bahra Industrial City, 25 km from Jeddah, its factory occupies more than 200,000 sq m of prime manufacturing space together with associated design offices, laboratories and storage area.
The Saudi-based cable company has offices in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait, sells its products throughout the Middle East, Asia, Far East and North Africa.
