SAUDI Arabia’s King Abdullah has pledged to help Bahrain build a SR1-billion ($266.6 million) medical city as a gift to the people.

The city will be called the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City and will be affiliated to the Arab Gulf University (AGU) in Bahrain. It will include a 300-bed hospital, a medical college building, a training centre, a medical research centre and accommodation for students and employees.
The hospital, which will also offer free medical services, will have a research centre and training facilities for medical students, which includes opportunities for training in nursing and dentistry.
AGU president Dr Khalid Al Ohali said the next six months will be dedicated to the drawing up of a strategic plan for the medical town.
