PPG Industries has recently launched its Duranar SPF coil coatings, which can be used for various purposes including for aluminium composite panels.
The new reflective coating can help save energy by reducing the interior temperature in buildings by eight to 15 deg C, according to Sinan Nader, regional sales manager, Industrial Coatings – Middle East. The product is available in PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) and polyester.
“This is a very high-end product, developed keeping in mind the regional climate and to meet the increasing demand for environment-friendly and ‘green’ products,” he says. “The US Green Building Council (UGBC) applies a ‘whole building’ perspective for its LEED (leadership in energy and environmental design) programme, in which points may be earned in several categories. The majority of metal components painted with Duranar SPF can contribute to achieving Leed points especially in sustainable sites, energy and environment, and materials and resources areas,” he says.
With the increasing focus on sustainable and design-led construction in the Gulf, PPG says it sees the region as an exciting market for its products, especially its coil and extrusion coatings, which are used in a wide range of applications.
PPG Industries is a leading diversified manufacturer of paints, coatings, optical products, specialty materials, chemicals, glass and fibreglass.
Two years ago, it commissioned a blending facility in Jebel Ali, Dubai, which includes a high-tech supporting laboratory with colour-matching and testing capabilities. The facility focuses on the production of two of the company’s most popular coating segments in the region – namely, coil and extrusion (PVDF) coatings and general industrial finishes.
Among the major coatings that are being produced at the facility are Duranar coatings, which have been used on a number of landmark projects in the UAE including the Dubai Metro, Emirates Towers, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce building, Dubai International Airport and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (Adia) headquarters building in Abu Dhabi, according to Nader.
“PPG’s Duranar coatings are the most trusted and specified in the business around the world and, together with our Coraflon and other fluoropolymers, acrylics, polyesters and waterborne coatings, they offer options that are extremely durable and aesthetically pleasing,” he adds.
