DRAKE & Scull International (DSI) has won a contract worth Dh596 million ($162 million) to design and build a 65,000-ton district cooling plant at the Durrat Al Bahrain artificial island project in Bahrain.
The contract is DSI’s largest IWP (infrastructure, water and power) project to date.
The plant will serve the entire cooling needs of the mixed-use development, according to DSI, which also launched its listing on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) last month.
The project includes reticulation pipe work, an energy transfer station and metering systems.
DSI executive director of IWP Tawfiq Abu Soud said the project reinforces DSI market leadership in IWP projects across the region and supports the financial strength DSI is currently experiencing. “We have big plans for the future,” he said. “We are already working on over 35 projects, worth in excess of Dh5 billion ($1.36 billion) across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the greater Mena (Middle East and North Africa) region. As both time and our shares begin to mature, we will continue to expand and launch new projects.”
Beginning in September, the project will take five years to complete and will serve the entire Durrat Al Bahrain community.
DSI has provided electrical and mechanical engineering solutions to customers since its inception in the UAE in 1966. Its expertise in mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contracting spans from providing complete solutions through design and build to engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), and civil contracting services across the UAE as well as maintenance and operations of district cooling plants across the Middle East and North Africa.
