KUWAIT'S Ministry of Public Works is set to award a KD41.3 million ($151 million) Subiya Expressway contract to the local United Gulf Construction Company (UGCC).

The third phase of the Jahra-Subiya expressway covers a 27-km-long section with two spurs, to the Iraqi border and Bubiyan island. The work is expected to take three years to complete. UGCC was the low bidder for the work, ahead of the local firms Mohammed Abdulmohsin Al Kharafi & Sons with KD46 million ($158.2 million) and Burhan International Construction Company with KD47 million ($161.73 million).
The central tenders committee has already approved the bid for the third phase of the Jahra-Subiya expressway, but is seeking technical clarifications from the contractor. A letter of award is now expected soon.
Contracts for the first two phases, totalling more than $170 million, were awarded to Combined Group and Shaheen Alghanim Roads & Bridges, both local firms. The local Pan Arab Consulting Engineers (Pace) is the project’s design consultant.
