Leading exterior lighting company Abacus Lighting has commenced work on a major new project in the Middle East involving design, manufacture and installation of the floodlighting system for the new Doha executive golf course. The project utilises the UK firm's base-hinged raising and lowering mast, along with the AM562B floodlight.

According to the firm, the reputation of Abacus and its experience in working on a range of golf courses within the Middle East led the Qatar Government to approach Abacus to tender for this prestigious project valued at £400,000 ($600,000).

"We have been in the Middle East for the past 30 years and have worked on a range of golf courses, so we have established quite a profile in this area and have built a high level of expertise in designing effective lighting schemes," explains export manager John Anthony.

"Most golf is played in the cool of the evenings therefore the lighting design commissioned had to provide adequate lighting and the correct level of illuminance for the players. Two other important factors considered when designing the scheme were ensuring glare from the floodlights and overspill was minimised."

"We are naturally pleased to have the opportunity to work on this project from the design stage and take it as a mark of client confidence on the standard of our work," he adds.
