Modern Fibreglass ... impressive display.

Buoyed by the ongoing construction boom, Bahrain-based Modern Fibreglass Decoration plans to set up its second manufacturing unit in Qatar within the next six months.

The company, which manufactures various types of glassfibre reinforced concrete (GRC) for architectural use, is currently exporting its products to Qatar from its plant located in the industrial area of Ras Zwaid in Bahrain.
The proposed factory in Qatar will be double the size of its existing facility, in which the group is believed to have invested about BD150,000 ($398,000), according to Emad E Helmy, technical and administrative manager of the company which put up an impressive stand at gulfBID.
“The Qatar market is much larger and to cater to its requirements we plan to set up a new plant that will be double the size of our existing one,” says Helmy.
In Bahrain, the bulk of the business for the company comes from villas and palaces, while in Qatar it is engaged in a number of mega projects including The Pearl-Qatar.
The Bahrain plant, he adds, is well-equipped to produce spray-type GRC, glassfibre reinforced gypsum (GRG), glassfibre reinforced polyester (GRP) and cast stone. The manufacturing of GRC is performed according to Glassfibre Reinforced Concrete Association (GRCA) specifications. “A strict quality control is followed to ensure that the product conforms to standards,” says Helmy.
The company claims to be proficient in the design, manufacture and installation of external cladding systems. “We design each element to resist external loads and relative movements due to thermal and moisture changes. Besides, durability, tolerance allowances, condensation control, joint designs, good weathering and architectural details, are studied in detail,” he says.
Modern Fibreglass is one of the companies of the New Vision Group headed by the managing director Ibrahim A Wahab.
Established in 2000, the New Vision group has business interests in various sectors including hotels, telecommunication and construction.
The company also plans to increase awareness about the concept and usage of GRC by holding seminars for architects and other stakeholders in the construction industry.
