The first phase grading work has been completed at the Najmat Abu Dhabi project, for which a Dh201 million ($54.7 million) contract has also been awarded to China Harbour Engineering to develop three marinas and a grand canal.

"The three Marinas form the lifeline of the Najmat Abu Dhabi development which will offer a superior ambience of island living, yet closer to the mainland.  The development of marinas follow an in-depth study on marine environment as part of our analysis of the environmental impact of the project,” says Manish Joshi, general manager, Reem Developers, the fully-owned subsidiary of Reem Investments.
Reem Developers has announced that development work at its flagship Dh30 billion project is progressing ahead of schedule. The company had earlier enhanced the contractual scope of National Projects and Construction (NPC) to include the subsequent grading works for Najmat Abu Dhabi.
Senior officials of Reem Developers said that in addition to the grading work where over 70 pieces of heavy machinery were being put to use to ensure speedy completion, the excavation work for the three marinas is also running ahead of schedule.
“Furthermore, the Najmat Abu Dhabi marine works have been designed by Halcrow International in association with Hyder Consulting. The marine modelling and hydrodynamic study for Najmat Abu Dhabi, conducted by Halcrow, is considered as one of the most successful models of its kind,” he adds. 
Till date a total excavation of 640,000 cu m and filling of 624,000 cu m has been completed. It is further estimated that total quantity of backfilling tantamount to one million cu m of soil will be completed by the end of this month.
Spread across 16 million sq ft, Najmat, the Star of Abu Dhabi is an iconic project located on Reem Island, developed 300 m off the north-eastern coast of the federal capital. It has been designed to offer best-of-the-breed facilities in waterfront and island living.
The three marinas – Bay Centre Marina with a 250 m diameter, Residential Marina with a 200-m diameter and Resort Marina with a 180-m diameter – are strategic to the aesthetic lay-out of the project.
