ACO drain systems ... a new addition to Sayyar’s portfolio.

Sayyar Trading has been aiming for the elite developments in Bahrain and, gauging by its track record, it has secured measurable success.

Some of the projects it has newly added to its portfolio are the Bahrain World Trade Center, the Diplomat Radisson SAS furnished apartments, the Royal Women’s University and the Supreme Council for Women headquarters.
“Business has been very good over the past year. We have seen a 25 per cent increase in turnover during 2006 and are enjoying an increasing share of the upper end of the market,” says Wael Sayyar, managing director of the Bahrain-based trading firm. “We are not trying to compete in the lower end.”
Apart from Bahrain, Sayyar Trading is also active in Qatar where the firm has registered a 50 per cent growth in turnover over the past year.
Established in Bahrain in 1978, Sayyar Trading has grown into a major importing and manufacturing enterprise in the region. Its product portfolio includes sanitary ware, bathroom accessories, mixers and fittings, built-in kitchens, door locking systems, countertops, marble, granite, parquet and Topstone solid surfaces, seating for auditoriums and stadiums, pavers and street/urban and garden furniture.
Having built a sound reputation in the market, Sayyar Trading does not intend to rest on its laurels but continues to diversify its product portfolio, offering a comprehensive range of systems and services that will help meet the varied requirements of the construction sector.
Among the agencies recently acquired by the company are:
• Germany-based ACO, for its drainage solutions and grease and oil separators. Sayyar is targeting runways, street and industrial facilities for these products;
• Amiantit Oman’s HDPE (high-density polyethylene) pipes, which have recently been approved by Bahrain’s Ministry of Works. Sayyar has recently won an order from Down Town Construction to supply a sewerage project in Sanabis with 150, 225 and 300 mm diameter pipes; and
• Energy Management Services (EMS) of Dubai, UAE, which offers value-engineered solutions to optimise energy consumption in buildings. EMS has established a reputation for having carried out a number of high-profile projects, including the Aviation Club in Dubai, the Dubai World Trade Centre, the JW Marriott Hotel and Commercial Bank of Dubai, all in Dubai, UAE; as well as the Marriott Hotel in Amman, Jordan.
Sayyar Trading has also included pipeline inspection and rehabilitation services using closed circuit television (CCTV) systems to its range of services.
“Staffed by a team of highly experienced and professional personnel, we undertake pipeline inspection for sewer, storm water, gas, oil, water and sea water feed lines with our high-profile digital cameras,” says Sayyar. “We regularly undertake pipeline inspection jobs for the Ministry of Works and Housing, Ministry of Electricity and Water and oil refineries. We have completed pipeline inspection services worth BD100,000 ($265,287) during 2005-2006 at various locations in Bahrain including at Isa Town, Karranah and A’Ali. In addition, following inspection, Sayyar Trading also undertakes pipeline rehabilitation jobs using the stainless steel grouting sleeve method with a service guarantee of 50 years.”
Sayyar Trading has just been awarded the contract for the exterior marble cladding works for the Sabika Ibrahim Mosque in Isa Town. The scope of works involves the supply of 6,000 sq m of Travertino Beige marble cladding cut and polished at its own factory. The consultant on the project is Modern Architects.
“This contract, the biggest cladding deal we have undertaken to date, is a major challenge for us as it is to be completed on a fast-track basis within two months,” says Sayyar.
Other marble cladding works completed include a luxury villa for Dina Shirazi (Italian Imparador and Jerusalem Stone).
Meanwhile, for the Diplomat SAS, Sayyar Trading has supplied V&B sanitary ware, Aliseo accessories from Germany, Jacuzzis from Roca and special spa showers; while for the BWTC’s shopping mall and towers, it provided V&B sanitary ware, Hansa mixers and vanity basins from Roca. Other projects completed by the company include 30 villas at Jasra (Roca sanitary ware, Hansa fittings, kitchens from Grovewood of the UK and a variety of tiles); and Al Murjan Towers in Juffair (Roca sanitary ware, Hansa fittings and tiles).
In addition to the above-mentioned brands, Sayyar Trading also deals with Norway’s Timelox (hotel door locking systems), France’s Roland Vlaemynck (garden and swimming pool furniture), theatre, auditorium and sports seating from Irwin from Europe and US; sports seating from Imsa and Metalliform; water coolers from Elkay, paving and street furniture from Marshalls, UK.
As part of its expansion plans, Sayyar Trading intends to establish a state-of-the-art showroom as well as a kitchen showroom in Bahrain during this year. The company already has a large showroom on Exhibition Avenue and two large warehousing facilities in Barbar and Sitra.
Sayyar Trading, which started operations in Qatar in 1998, is currently setting up a new warehouse in Doha.
“Our customers both in the private and the public sectors vouch for the quality of our products and the reliability of our company, which has been the key to our success both in Bahrain and in Qatar. We feel that the goodwill that we have earned in our industry over the years, backed by the current construction boom in the Middle East, will further boost our growth in the near future,” concludes Sayyar.
