
Construction work on the the new BD45 million ($119.4 million) King Hamad General Hospital in Muharraq, Bahrain, is expected to start by August, with piling work set for completion in May.
According to Works and Housing Ministry under-secretary Nayef Al Kalali, the 312-bed hospital project would be ready to open in early 2007.
The BD680,000 piling contract was awarded to Keller Grundbau.
The hospital will be built on a total area of 227,000 sq m and will feature three inter-connected four-storey medical blocks.
The project has been designed by the Australian Hospital Design Group in co-ordination with Ismail Khonji Associates and the conceptual designs were made by Australian group, Denton Corker Marshal.
