Qatar plans mega library

Qatar is planning to set up a Public National Library on Doha Corniche over an area of 145,000 sq m, which will boast of the latest in scientific and technology.

The design of the library emanates from an idea of the famous Japanese architect, Arata Isozaki, who has designed the Louvre Museum in France.
The library will include a basement and eight upper floors. It would have many sections including the public library, information desk, open library room and display rooms for manuscripts capable of shelving up to two million books. On the ground level, it would house two museums (one of natural history and the second of science history).
The library will also include a section named ‘British Library’ and display hall for oriental paintings along with a museum for currencies and manuscripts. It will also have lecture rooms.
The library would be linked to famous data and research centres and libraries worldwide as one of the most important ones in the world. Work is expected to be completed on the library 2007.
