Hyder Consulting and WS Atkins, both from the UK, have prequalified for the consultancy contract of the Sitra Causeway project in Bahrain.
A construction tender is expected in the third quarter of this year.
The project calls for the replacement of the two existing bridges, widening the Sitra highway crossing and expanding the interchanges at either end of the causeway.
Renovating the current causeway was considered pointless by the technical studies. Pilings underpinning the existing bridges are considered inadequate to support 40-tonne trucks, which have to be diverted, creating a major bottleneck.
