CompAir, considered one of the leading manufacturers of com pressed air and gas systems, has recently undergone a major 12-month restructuring programme to transform it into a global operation, focused on the swift delivery of world-class products to a diverse customer base, says a spokesman of the company.
This has entailed the appointment of new managing director, Graham Roberts concentration of production at CompAir’s manufacturing base in Simmern, Germany, reshaping its portable offer by investing in new products and a major overhaul of its entire portable compressor range.
As a division focused entirely on the manufacture of portable compressors, CompAir sells a wide ‘globalised’ range of machines, comprising over 50 models including the patented TurboScrew technology.
CompAir has recently introduced its new high-performance C210TS-12 TurboScrew compressor to the market, to complement the successful 21 cu m/min at nine bar version.
According to the spokesman, the new product enhances CompAir’s TS range, which is the most compact, lightest and economical in its class. The C210TS-12 represents the sixth and largest of CompAir’s range of TS compressors that now offer volume flow rates from 16 to 23 cu m/min.
“The TurboScrew range is able to achieve best-in-class performance in terms of reduced fuel consumption, thanks to the use of bi-turbo technology,” says the spokesman. “This is based on the use of a second exhaust gas turbo charger, which pre-compresses the intake air for the air end. The patented machine concept significantly improves the efficiency of the compressor, particularly in everyday part-load operation and uses up to 30 per cent less diesel fuel than any other comparable compressor on the market.”
CompAir’s range of products and services include the most efficient compressors on the market today. New engines have been introduced in the compact and mid-range machines segment to increase the energy efficiency and performance of the units.
Adds the spokesman: “Compliant with new EU legislation, the engines’ ability to combine high torque with low speeds gives them a critical edge in comparison with their predecessors. By providing the required drive energy at significantly lower speeds, the new engines allow quieter compressor operation and reduced fuel consumption whilst maintaining the same volume flow. In fact, volume flow has actually increased significantly on some machines.
“To accompany the changed design of the bodies, the instrument panel has been redesigned and located centrally at the rear of the machine along with the air delivery valves, making the unit’s operation even more user-friendly.”
The company’s new C76 (Duty), which made its debut at bauma last month (March 29 to April 4), is heralded as the first specially-designed, environmentally-friendly compressor concept in the world, setting the standard for the future of compressor design. Manufactured using specially-selected components and recyclable materials, the C76 utilises a particle filter minimizing harmful exhaust gases.
The use of environmentally-friendly oils and optimum machine-sealing prevents the emission of harmful substances into the environment, making the machine particularly suitable for use in highly-sensitive locations such as protected water catchment areas. The design, manufacture and high performance of the new C76 portable system has been achieved by using modern series production techniques and the latest in compressor technology.
In addition to portable compressors, CompAir’s Air and Plus range, provides optimum series machines from 2 to 31 cu m/min for a multiplicity of applications. CompAir offers a host of options including pressure settings (7, 9, 12, 14 and up to 24 bar), skid or suspension frames, after-coolers, micro-filters and machines with built-in generators and has an extensive product mix, capable of delivering high performance and energy efficiency for numerous applications, he says.
With a substantial product range from the single tool C14 to C30, to the C110-9 to C140-9 versatile site compressors, right through to larger compressors like the C 255-24 and TurboScrew range, CompAir has a portable product capable of meeting a wide variety of customer needs.
As a company, CompAir was originally formed in 1968 by the merger of a number of businesses, including the Holman brand – synonymous with portable compressors – and the Germany-based Demag business that joined the group in 1996. It was taken under new ownership in March 2002 – following a management buyout with venture capitalists Alchemy Partners.
CompAir, which has a presence in the Middle East market for a quarter of a century, has been looking forward to an increased presence in the region. A major element in CompAir’s regional partnership success has been the relationship with Genavco in the UAE.
Commenting on the relationship between the two companies, Steve Ryder, regional sales director for CompAir Middle East, says: “Having worked with Genavco for more than 25 years, CompAir has seen the UAE develop into a robust and extremely well-serviced business, with Genavco supplying the full range of portable products to meet the demands of a growing customer base.”
He continues: “Over the last 12 months, the pace of change within CompAir portables has been remarkable. The spotlight is now clearly on customers to whom the company has made the commitment to bring more new products to the market more quickly. A growing global sales and service network will ensure that CompAir’s products are fully supported in the field and that the company is able to gain a closer understanding of individual markets, and their current and future portable compressor needs. We have a clear focus on the Middle East and are working with partners such as Genavco to help us achieve the highest levels of customer satisfaction within the industry.”
CompAir is also expecting a lot of activity in the emerging reconstruction markets of Iraq and has taken several steps to ensure the timely delivery of the equipment.
“Iraq’s reconstruction is offering a number of opportunities and to support this CompAir Middle East has ensured that portable machine availability is second to none. A large inventory of machines is mobilised in Kuwait and is managed by our Kuwaiti distribution partner, Al Zabin International. Shipments from the factory are now becoming a routine that continues to grow,” he says.
“Training is an area that can never be overlooked and CompAir Middle East is fortunate to have access to Genavco’s excellent training facilities where regional service personnel can receive both classroom theoretical training as well as indepth hands-on experience on both models and the actual machines.
Elaborating on the prospects of growth in the region he says: “The recent tender awarded to CompAir’s Bahraini partner, YK Almoayyed, for a range of portable machines (between 5 and 18 cu m/min) for a government authority reflects the continued focus on delivering products that meet and exceed customers local requirements.
“Saudi Arabian partner, General Machinery Agencies, is also experiencing increased demand across the entire range of CompAir portable machines and several for machines with unique operational requirements such as train track sand-clearing duties.
“Global support from the CompAir network of companies and distribution partners also ensured the fast delivery requirement for Qatari customer (via Mannai Trading) for a large portable machine (21 cu m/min at 20 bar) could be met within the time frame. A machine was available within Asia and could be shipped to beat the factory leadtime and hence meet the delivery requirement. Further developments within Qatar are expected with the opening of a new machinery showroom in Doha.
CompAir is continuing to focus on the customers’ requirements and with the commitment of partners such as Genavco further success for the portable range of machines is expected.
