JLG Industries – a leading producer of mobile aerial work platforms, telescopic material handlers and telescopic hydraulic excavators – has introduced a new Ultra Series boom lift that offers a host of new features.
The machine was launched at bauma 2004 held at the Munich International Trade Fairs Centre last month (March 29 to April 4).
The new 1250AJP Ultra boom aerial work platform is an articulating and telescoping model with a horizontal reach of 19.25 m (63 ft 2 in), an up and over reach of 18.47 m and a 38.10 m platform height, says a company spokesman.
The unique JibPlus jib boom on the model 1250AJP rotates both vertically (130 degrees) and horizontally (125 degrees) and when combined with the 180-degree rotation offered by the platform, provides workers with exceptional manoeuvrability for reaching hard-to-access areas. Platform capacity in the majority of the work envelope is a restricted 454 kg (1,000 lbs) and unrestricted platform capacity is 230 kg (500 lbs), he says.
For added worker productivity, the machine is fitted with JLG’s QuikStik boom that allows the platform to be lowered to the ground while the tower boom is fully raised and extended. With this feature, workers can go from ground level to full elevation in 95 seconds, he says.
A standard feature of the 1250AJP is the SkyPower package comprising a 7,500-watt generator, which provides power to welders and other platform-mounted accessories. Other features include drive-out front extending axle, oscillating axle for better traction over rough terrain, and four-wheel drive and steer. Similar to the 41.15 m and 36.58 m platform height JLG Ultra boom lifts, the 1250AJP’s articulating and telescoping boom lift is transportable on a standard step-deck trailer without the need for special permits.
Other products from JLG include the new 510 series articulating boom lift.
Says the spokesman: “The JLG 510AJ provides even greater choice to rental and end-users with its 15.81 m platform height (18 m working height). The boom lift also features an up and over height of 7.63 m, allowing ease of access over and above obstacles and helps to access hard-to-reach areas that are normally off-limits to other access platforms.
“In addition, the product features a 1.24 m articulating jib for extra reach and improved positioning to the work face. The machine offers a combination of rapid function speeds and multiple function controls that provide high operator productivity and can be fitted with options and accessories to further enhance operational convenience and productivity.”
Standard features include an oscillating axle and four-wheel drive and advanced design electronic (ADE) control system for fuel efficiency and improved function control. The ADE system also helps reduce the number of wires and connections throughout the machine.
The 510AJ boom lift offers the optional SkyWelder and SkyPower packages from its new series of Workstation in the Sky access platform accessories and attachments. The SkyPower system allows workers to use power tools without a separate ground-based generator and eliminates cables hanging down from the platform. An air-line is also routed through the power track on machines equipped with the SkyPower generator for operation of pneumatic tools. The system is ideal in situations where any type of powered tool is integral to the work process, says the spokesman.
The SkyWelder System – a 250 amp welder in the platform, powered by the integrated SkyPower system – allows workers to perform overhead welding free from potentially dangerous leads hanging over platform rails. It also minimises lost time associated with moving a freestanding welder every time the boom lift is repositioned.
The Model 510AJ boom lift also features a side-entry platform that allows for installation of material handling accessories at its front.
JLG’s Easi-Cladder package is a mechanised method of lifting and holding cladding panels into position. The system comprises a modular base unit and a set of hydraulic arms which lift and position cladding panels up to 100 kg in weight.
The Easi-Cladder is especially useful since the signing of the Kyoto agreement, which calls for cladding panels with extra insulation, resulting in thicker and heavier units (weighing around 100 kg).
Traditionally, an 80-kg cladding panel would be moved into position by two men on the deck of a scissor lift, while two other men would rivet the panel into position.
JLG’s new Easi-Cladder system eliminates the need for men to hold panels in position by supporting the weight of a cladding panel on its hydraulic arms, he says. With its electronic/hydraulic lifting system, the device can accurately position a cladding panel against a wall, so that the cladder can position and secure it in place with ease.
“Not only will the Easi-Cladder system allow panels to be erected more efficiently, but it will require only two men. With the additional two men working on another scissor lift equipped with the Easi-Cladder system, the job could be completed in half the time,” says the spokesman.
The JLG Easi-Cladder system can be field or factory-fitted to the company’s new line of large deck scissor lifts and is especially efficient for use on the wider MegaDeck platforms.
