At work on a project ... a Hamm roller.

Germany’s oldest manufacturer of road rollers has recently launched the first Hamm vibratory compactors of the new Series 3000 in the UAE.

The new Hamm single-drum vibratory compactor, model 3411, with an operating weight of 11 tonnes, will replace the widely-used Hamm soil compactor 2420 D.
“The first machines of this new type are already working to the full satisfaction of the local contractors and we are convinced that this new and most modern Hamm compactor will be well accepted. Both Hamm and Genavco – its exclusive dealer in UAE – are certain about the success of this innovative and well designed machine,” says Wilhelm Ott, export manager with Hamm.
Hamm’s association with Genavco dates back to 1981 and in the last three years the association has seen the sale of over 200 Hamm rollers - mainly rubber-tyred rollers, vibratory tandem rollers and vibratory single-drum compactors - in the emirates.
“The excellent sales and back-up service offered by the Genavco team, confirmed by many Hamm users, has made this feat possible. Today, these machines are working on major job sites and have become the basis for better and comfortable roads,” he says.
Hamm Company has been in existence for more than 125 years.
Driven by the pioneering spirit, the first engine-powered road roller was developed in 1911, establishing the foundation for today’s road roller technology, Ott says.
With the Wirtgen Group (Germany) offering its commitment to Hamm in 1999, further prospects for growth were opened for the new millennium.
A new milestone was reached in the company’s history with the completion in early 2002 of new production facilities covering area of 19,000 sq m. Hamm’s production site conforms to the latest modern standards and provides the basis for quality-conscious, flexible and customer-orientated production of complete products, he says.
Today, Hamm produces more than 2,600 Hamm rollers per year at its Tirschenreuth, facility in Germany.
Various types of rollers, starting from the smallest models at 2.5 tonnes to the heaviest weighing in at 28 tonnes, are fully assembled on four assembly lines, each measuring 100 m long. Hamm’s roller range includes:

  • 15 models of vibratory tandem rollers from 2.5 to 14 tonnes;
  • Nine models of combination rollers from 2.5 to nine tonnes;
  • 16 models of vibratory single smooth drum compactors from 4.75 to 25 tonnes;
  • 15 models of vibratory single padfoot drum compactors from 5.7 to 20 tonnes;
  • Four models of rubber-tyred rollers (PTR) from eight to 28 tonnes;
  • Two models of static three-wheel rollers from eight to 14 tonnes; and
  • Nine models of oscillation rollers/compactors.

Hamm machines are working on all five continents supported by over 50 Wirtgen Group subsidiaries or independent exclusive Hamm (Wirtgen Group) dealers.
The company’s prestigious customers in the Gulf include: Al Futtaim Tarmac, Al Gheemi, Al Naboodah Contracting, Bin Hafeez Establishment, Dutco Construction, Emirates Roads Contracting Company, Wade Adams Contracting, Ghantoot Transport, Darwish Engineering, Copri Construction, NWJ&P Contracting, FNCT, BRICC, Saif Bin Darwish (all in the UAE); Haji Hassan Group, Eastern Asphalt and Mixed Concrete and United Gulf Asphalt Coompany (all in Bahrain); Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) and Oman Gulf Company, in Oman; Kuwait Company for Process Plant Construction and Contracting (KCPC), Kuwait; Saudi Bin Ladin Group (Saudi Arabia and the UAE); Unimac, (Saudi Arabia and the UAE); Chaabane et Cie, Tunisia; and J&P (Overseas).
“In spite of the very difficult world market situation and its negative impact on sales Hamm has been able to achieve, over-average results in regional sales – with co-operation from its local dealers.
“Hamm vibratory rollers (HD 110) and pneumatic-tyred rollers (GRW 18) – a successful set to achieve best asphalt compaction results – have become a hit. Many contractors are operating big fleets of Hamm PTRs and tandem rollers and easily achieving the best compaction results,” Ott adds.
