Jotun is once again making waves in Dubai, this time on a new luxury flagship cruiser, which it is not just protecting, but actually helping save money.

Recently launched on the Dubai Creek, the Al Minsaf is a stunning, all-glass, fine-dining and entertainment cruise ship that accommodates up to 400 passengers, and features unique elements such as 360-degree views and an environment-friendly approach to operations.

Designed by Seine Design of Paris, the vessel has been built by Al Jadaf-based Goltens Company within a 120-day schedule. Goltens was also responsible for the installation of the hull, bilge, and fire lines, engines and control systems, fabrication and installation of superstructure and anchoring arrangements.

Bateaux Dubai, partly owned by Dutco Group, has invested Dh15 million ($4 million) in building Al Minsaf.
Jotun's role in the construction and maintenance of this new Dubai icon is of particular significance. The 56 by 13 m vessel's entire hull has been painted with a TBT (tri butyl tin)-free anti-fouling coating from Jotun Marine Coatings, which is said to be the most advanced of its kind in the world.

Called SeaQuantum, the antifouling range not only protects the hull, but actually smoothens over time, thus optimising hull performance and bringing fuel costs, according to the manufacturer.

'While most TBT-free antifouling are self-polishing only, SeaQuantum is self-smoothing as well, and the only product to guarantee a hull roughness reduction effect,' says a spokesman for Jotun.
An area of 125 sq m of hull above water, and 474 sq m underwater surface of the Al Minsaf have been treated with SeaQuantum Classic Black.

'A hull that becomes increasingly smooth even as its coating wears has major financial benefits. The vessel's fuel consumption is reduced due to reduced friction. TBT-free SeaQuantum has the ability to control the leached layer development,' says Didier Dupuy, project manager of Bateaux Dubai, justifying the choice of SeaQuantum.
