Both Jubail and Yanbu industrial cities in Saudi Arabia continue to be important industrial centres for Arabian Pipeline and Services Company (Anabeeb).
The Anabeeb corporate headquarters is in Jubail with an additional base in Yanbu to support its Western Province activities.
Anabeeb has become known for its non-intrusive project handling, avoiding interruption to traffic flow and greatly improving client value.
The company says it is at the forefront of providing trenchless technology and has secured a number of contracts within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia using horizontal directional drilling (HDD) methods.
The speed with which Anabeeb can execute these jobs has firmly impressed its customers and end-users by offering an alternative option to the more traditional thrustboring methods.
This enables Anabeeb Pipeline Division to offer a complete range of solutions which includes: augerboring; pipejacking; horizontal centre-bite boring; micro-tunnelling; HDD; associated piling work; associated wellpoint dewatering; carrier insertion and grouting.
Many projects have been executed in and around the Jubail area recently and examples of HDD-related works include a variety of diameters, such as, 12" steel pipe for fibre-optic cables; eleven 10" steel pipe road-crossings completed well-ahead of schedule and a bundle of four 4" high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes for fibre-optic cables.
One significant achievement has also been the drilling for a 20" steel pipe 67 m under the Jubail Highway.
This again demonstrates Anabeeb's determination to be a leader in the field of trenchless technology.
Another recent milestone has been achieved using 24" micro-tunnelling technology to complete a 165 m-crossing being the longest boring to-date using this particular machine, according to Anabeeb.
This project gave Anabeeb the opportunity to use its newly purchased 30" head from Herrenknecht in Germany with a similar 165 m crossing due to be completed soon.
''This is an exciting development for Anabeeb with a number of projects ongoing throughout the local area,'' confirms Ian Thompson, business development manager for the group.
''Another recently completed project involved three 6" steel pipe HDD shots side-by-side running under a security fence into a local refinery.
''The additional workload has prompted us to make a number of improvements within our local facilities which are now structured to make the mobilisation of equipment much more efficient,'' he says.
Meanwhile, with a number of new plants and refineries under construction and additional expansion projects in progress, the future continues to look very bright in these areas, says the company.
This will include various pre-commissioning activities and initial loading of reactors, for example, for the industrial service provider.
A list of contracts with existing customers have already been secured which includes the catalyst change-out of two methanol super convertors for one of the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic) affiliates.
These reactors are unique being the first design of their kind in the world.
Emergency shutdowns has always been a feature of Anabeeb's support to its clients and a recent example of this has just included a catalyst change-out of a clay treater and molecular sieve replacement in a Yanbu-based refinery.
One of the strengths of the company is the ability to handle a wide range of activities. This year has provided a number of examples where a complete range has been required.
Anabeeb's strength comes through investing in the right management, administration and operational staff and the right systems, resulting in a flexible, comprehensive industrial support organisation to excel, even in the most demanding situations.
Continuous training and development of the highest calibre of quality and safety-conscious staff for every procedure and the latest systems is vital to Anabeeb's reputation for dependable, environmentally-responsible services, the company says.
