
Four consulting firms, HOK Architects, Skidmore Owings & Merrill both from the US, and WS Atkins International and Halcrow Group of the UK are expected to submit proposals for the $1 billion Phase 1 development of the Saadiyat Free Zone project in Abu Dhabi.
Phase 1 involves construction of offices, residences, leisure and entertainment facilities, roads, bridges and other necessary infrastructures.
Mannai to build Airport Hotel
Manama: Mannai Engineering has been awarded the construction work on Bahrain's 120-room four-star Airport Hotel and Business Centre to be located between Gulf Air headquarters and Bahrain International Airport. The project, which has Mohamed Salahuddin Consulting Engineering Bureau as the chief consulting architect and engineer, will be completed in 18 months. The cost of the project and its owner have not been revealed.
Machine tools show in Istanbul
Istanbul: Istanbul will host the IMAK-TATEF 2000, Turkey's 9th International Machine Tool and Metal Working Exhibition, from September 27 to October 1 at the CNR World Trade Center.
IMAK-TATEF 2000 will be of international character in line with last year's events. Exhibitors at last year's event came from 26 countries including Germany, Italy, the US and UK. The show is expected to attract visitors from the Mediterranean region, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Libya and Pakistan. Trade visitors at the exhibition will be from within the manufacturing, automotive, aircraft construction, military hardware, electronics and electrotechnics, power and mining sectors.
New projects for ladies beach
Abu Dhabi: A miniature train-track and 20 chalets are among projects being considered to be developed for the Women's Union-run Ladies Beach in the UAE capital.
The other projects include seven restaurants a entertainment hall, a new swimming pool. Meanwhile, work is under way on renovating an existing pool at the facility.

London: The UK-based BSP International Foundations, a leading international designer and manufacturer of foundation engineering equipment, has appointed Sohad Establishment in Kuwait City, as its sales and servicing dealer for Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Yemen.
