Five contracts worth BD31.75 million ($84.22 million) have been awarded by Bahrain's Ministry of Electricity and Water for the reinforcement of transmission networks in the country.

The project will involve the construction of 12 new 66 kV substations, expansion of 10 existing substations and the installation of high-voltage cable network with a total length of 100 km. The five contracts have been awarded to:

  • French firm Alstom for the design and installation of high-voltage switchgear and ancillary equipment in substations;

  • The Swiss-Swedish ABB for the design, manufacture and installation of transformers and associated equipment in substations;

  • Korean company Lucky Gold Star for the design, manufacture and site delivery of power transmission cables, communication cables and associated equipment;

  • Local firm Abdulla Ahmed Nass for installation, jointing and commissioning of various parts of the 66 kV transmission network; and

  • The local Behzad Electrical and Construction for installation, jointing and commissioning of various parts of the 66 kV transmission network.
