
The UAE's General Exhibitions Corporation (GEC) and Addar Real Estate Services have announced that they will jointly develop the World Trade Centre (WTC) in Abu Dhabi at an estimated cost of Dh500 million ($136 million).
To be developed in two phases, the WTC will be located at a site owned by the GEC on the Musaffah road. The complex will be owned and operated by a company established by the promoters. Consultants and project managers are yet to be finalised.
Phase I will be completed in 2003 at a cost of Dh300 million and will cover 65,000 sq m of mixed-use space comprising offices, conference facilities, serviced apartments and a family entertainment centre that will include restaurants and retail space.
Manama: Construction has begun on the BD569,500 ($1.51 million) new multi-purpose gymnasium complex at Bahrain Bayan School. The 3,221 sq m complex, which will include two full-size gymnasiums and a 600-seat auditorium, will be ready by the end of this year. The project, designed by Gredeco Ansari Consultants, is being constructed by main contractor Projects group.
Doha: Qatar Cinema and Film Distribution Company (QCFDC) has a number of new projects under way including setting up three new cinema halls at The Mall which are expected to be ready by June. Another new cinema hall will be built at the Salwa Industrial Area by July. The Landmark complex on the North Road will have three new cinemas, which are expected to be ready by September.
Meanwhile, negotiations were in progress with local and international companies for setting up a cinema complex at the City Center, now nearing completion in the Dafna area. Similar efforts were also under way to build new cinemas at Al-Khor and Ras Laffan. QCFDC has submitted quotations to the Messaieed Municipality to set up cinema houses at three clubs: Falcon, Ras Laffan and Messaieed.
Kuwait City: A KD4.5 million ($15.12 million) sewage treatment plant is to be built in Kuwait's Umm Al-Haiman area, said Eid Al Khaledi, assistant undersecretary for sanitary engineering affairs at the Public Works Ministry. The plant will be constructed to high international standards within two years.
Abu Dhabi: The UAE National Consultative Council (NCC) has submitted a proposal for the construction of a bridge linking Mina Zayed with Abu Dhabi's Eastern Ring Road to the Abu Dhabi Executive Council (EC) for approval.
$15m road contract signed
Kuwait City: Kuwait's Minister of Public Works Eid Hathal Al Rashidi has signed a KD4.46 million ($14.98 million) contract with a local company to construct a road parallel to Al Sulaibiah-Kabad road. The contract, which is to be completed in two years, entails the construction of a dual carriageway. Another road leading to the camel race track will also be built.
