Plan for $400m refinery

Takreer, a wholly-owned subsidiary of UAE's Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), plans to set up a Dh1.47 billion ($400 million) oil refinery in Ruwais in the next four years.

Steakhouse to open by year-end

Manama: The BD500,000 ($1.32 million) Ponderosa Steakhouse, which is being built on the King Fahad Corniche facing the Regency-Inter.Continental Hotel in Bahrain, will be opened by the year-end. The 760 sq m building will have a seating capacity of 220. Adel Ahmadi Associates is the construction management consultant. The project is being developed by Bahrain Family Leisure Company.

Hospital walkway being erected

Manama: Steel framework for a 22-m walkway above the Isa Al Kabeer Avenue in Bahrain to connect the American Mission Hospital's existing building and its new extension has been erected. Work on the walkway is expected to continue for another two months.

$408m health projects passed

Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Executive Council has approved health projects worth Dh1.5 billion ($408.49 million) for the Eastern region, including Al Ain.

The council also approved a number of projects including a highway for trucks extending from Al Faba area to Seih Shuaib near Zayed Military City and schools in Abu Dhabi and the Eastern region.

New desal plant for QGPC

Doha: Qatar General Petroleum Corporation (QGPC) has called for bids for engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation and commissioning of a second desalination plant at Halul Island. The new desalination plant is to be commissioned within 16 months.

Used vehicle centre complete

Sharjah: The Sharjah international complex for used right-hand drive vehicles, located at Al Riqaa Al Hamra area, was due for completion by March-end, said Ahmed Fakri, director general of Sharjah Municipality.

Iraq starts work on port terminal

Baghdad: Construction has begun on a terminal at the Iraqi port of Umm Qasr on the Gulf. Port authority director Jassem Al Mashhadani told Al Jumhuriya newspaper: "President Saddam Hussein has allocated 2 billion dinars ($620 million) for the project which should encourage tourism and trade in the province," of Basra in southern Iraq.

The announcement came after the recent inauguration of a new desert border post at Ar'ar to ease the passage of pilgrims to Makkah in Saudi Arabia.
