The new glass fusion process means solid, unbroken glass.

Zamil Architectural Industries (ZAI) recently launched a new glass product through its Art Glass Division to complement its already impressive decorative glass range.

The new Glass Fusion process uses a kiln to join together pieces of glass at high temperature. When a suitable type of glass is heated and then cooled properly, the resulting fused glass piece will be solid and unbroken.

ZAI manufactures high-quality fused glass, ranging from 3 mm to 40 mm in thickness, for custom-made architectural and interior designs including doors, windows, partitions, flooring, ceilings, skylights, building facades, gift items, ornaments and tableware, says Mohammed Hamdan, general manager of ZAI.

"The applications for fused glass are virtually limitless. It can be used in interior and exterior decoration for shopping malls, villas and palaces, offices, skylight, restaurants, shops, indoor stadiums and mosques," he says.

Fused glass from 3 mm to 6 mm thick is used for gift items such as ashtrays, plates, bowls, lampshades, glass frames and mirrors, while glass from 6 mm to 8 mm thick is used in partitions, doors and windows, domes and ceilings.

As a company involved in various aspects of construction in interiors and external architecture, ZAI operates through a number of divisions:

  • Zamil Doors - products include Roll-a-Door, sectional doors, industrial shutters, fast action doors, gates/operators (traffic barrier, sliding/swing gates and wardrobe sliding doors);

  • Shade Division - Shade Guard and PVC membrane structures;

  • Art Glass Division - stained glass, glass fusion and surface-decorated (sandblasting/acid etching);

  • Metal Works Division - balustrades/handrails, cladding, canopies; and

  • Skylight Division.

    Serving both local and international markets, the Doors Division has entered into a number of technology transfer partnerships with international suppliers such as B&D (Australia) for garage doors, Amarr (US) for sectional doors and Serai (Italy) for gates/operators, says the company.

    The Shade Division, meanwhile, offers Shade Guard, a unique product originally developed in Australia which provides a choice of controlled shade factors and blocks out up to 95 per cent of dangerous, cancer-causing UV-B rays. Shade Guard applications are virtually unlimited, whether for the sun protection of children in school, pools or public recreational areas, or for the protection of vehicles in parking areas or stockyards, ZAI points out.

    The Metal Works Division manufactures balustrades and handrails, stairs, doors, column claddings and canopies in stainless steel, either mirror or satin finish for use in private villas, palaces, offices, commercial centres, buildings and showrooms.

    The Skylight Division specialises in high quality architectural skylight domes in different shapes and sizes for various applications, from standard fixed to openable. These skylight domes can be fabricated in high quality aluminium or stainless steel, decorated with a combination of standard or stained glass, fused glass or heat mirror and supported by extremely high quality space frames, according to Hamdan.

    "Our products are designed and manufactured to the highest quality and they conform to international standards," he says.

    "We believe that the services offered by ZAI provide our valued customers with a unique opportunity to select one or more quality products from a company with a track record of commitment to quality and professionalism," he concludes.
