WORK on Bahrain’s first school integrating modern green technology is 60 per cent complete.

Education Minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi recently unveiled the world-class project at Wadi Al Sail, in the Southern Governorate.

The state-of-the-art primary intermediate school for girls will cover 28,673 sq m in a project costing BD3.7 million ($9.81 million). The Works Ministry has drawn up engineering designs and will supervise construction.

Once completed, the school will accommodate up to 1,000 students. It will include 33 classes – 20 for primary students – multi-purpose labs, a library and other key facilities. A sport auditorium, covering 900 sq m, will also be built as well as a cafeteria and playgrounds.

“The school integrates modern green technology to reduce power consumption and enable students to learn in soundproof classrooms,” said Mona Jassim Al Mutawa, Works Ministry assistant under-secretary for projects.

Construction materials used are fully recyclable. The school will also be equipped with special lights which automatically go on in the evening and switch off in the morning.
