RENAISSANCE Services has awarded two main construction contracts for the development of a permanent accommodation for contractors (PAC) within the Sezad development of Duqm in Oman.

Al Hajiry Trading has secured Package 3A while Services and Trade Company has Package 3B for the project, which has been awarded on a 50-50 cost split due to the sheer volume of work to be done within the construction period of two years.

These deals bring the total value of contracts awarded by Renaissance Services for Phase One of the project to more than RO57 million ($150 million). Earlier, Deebaj was awarded a contract for the bulk excavation and earthworks, and International Piling Experts, in joint venture with Geosol, a contract for piling to buildings within areas with a sensitive soil. Approximately 1,600 piles are to be installed, of which more than 1,100 have been completed to date.

PWA in association with local partner Centre Point Engineering Consultancy carried out the design phase of the project.

Two further packages are expected to be tendered and awarded this year for the sewage treatment plant (STP) facility and 11 kV hook-up works. When complete, the Duqm PAC facility will provide accommodation for more than 16,000 beds.

Renaissance Services CEO Stephen Thomas said: “Renaissance has assets over $1.9 billion. The Duqm project shall be our largest single investment to date. With this and other investments planned, by the time the project is completed in 2016 we shall own over $2.4 billion of assets.

“While we also continue to grow abroad, we have the full backing of the Renaissance Board to invest in developing major assets in Oman, which is leading the way in the region for state-of-the-art quality facilities for living and lifestyle for blue collar workers.”
