A SEMI-SUBMERGED resort designed by Italy’s Giancarlo Zema Design Group is to be built in Qatar at a cost of $500 million, according to regional and international news reports. However, the reports did not mention the name of the developer or when construction would commence.
Called the Amphibious 1000, the resort will resemble an aquatic animal stretching from land to sea over a length of 1 km with two ‘arm’ land masses. The land section will include residences, offices, a marina and a harbour, while the sea section will have four semi-submerged hotels with underwater suites offering “fascinating views”.
Giancarlo Zema Design specialises in semi-submerged architectural structures, floating habitats and yacht design, and the company’s website shows the project was designed in 2008 for Sequest Marine Technology.
