A STRATEGIC decision made over a decade years ago to produce copper materials is paying rich dividends for Saudi Electric Industries Company (Seico), a prominent Saudi specialist in the manufacture of electrical products and accessories. The company manufactures a range of products such as cable ladders and cable trays, supporting profiles and accessories, cable glands, lightning protection systems and earthing protection systems.

Seico started using copper for the production of electric products in 1998 and has been successfully manufacturing electric bus bar, cable lugs and earthing materials.
Cable lugs are used in the termination of cables in houses, factories, oil and gas projects and power plants and additionally, can be employed as a support for electrification projects.
“Our production capacity can cater to the demand in Saudi Arabia. Our products conform to a variety of standards such as UL, IEC and DIN to meet the needs of the market,” says a company spokesman.
According to him, Seico is capable of producing not just the standard products, but can also offer other market requirements such as special terminations for transformers.
“We have machining and casting centres for copper and aluminium products, besides a modern electroplating plant to handle any coating requests,” the spokesman says.
He continues: “We exercise stringent quality control with the help of the latest equipment available for testing and controlling product quality, including metallurgical, electric and mechanical tests.
“Seico has established an enviable reputation for quality, and is committed to maintaining high standards and our dedication to providing quality products and services has earned us the loyalty of our clients.”
Seico’s facilities are equipped with the latest technology and are supported by a testing laboratory that covers all stages of production. In addition, its products are tested and certified by independent authorities to ensure their compliance with international standards. The company is well staffed with an engineering team specialised in production and quality control. It also maintains close ties with a wide chain of suppliers to ensure that it procures good quality materials.
Established in 1990, the ISO-certified vendor covers the requirements of an extensive Gulfwide market, although its primary market remains Saudi Arabia. It has supplied these products to major petrochemical and power projects in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.
Among its clients are leading names in the hydrocarbons and petrochemical sectors including Aramco, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic), Qatar Petroleum, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and Kuwait Petroleum.
Seico sees excellent prospects in its field of specialisation, given the large number of power projects under way to meet the growing demand for electricity in view of the rapid industrialisation and increasing population in the region. Another important sector is oil and gas, which is accorded high priority in the region.
Seico has been involved in a number of major projects in Saudi Arabia, among the recent ones being: Khursaniya project carried out by Technip Italy/Bechtel; Rabigh project (for contractor Foster Wheeler) developed by PetroRabigh Refining and Petrochemical Company/Saudi Aramco; and Saudi Kayan cracker and olefins complex.
The firm has also been involved in several landmark projects recently in the GCC such as a Sohar project carried out by Larsen and Toubro in Oman; Asab Gas Development and Habshan gas complex expansion project by Eastern Bechtel Company for Gasco, UAE; Dubai Metro for contractor Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Company; and Borouge Two by Tecnimont.
