

AL RASHED Building Materials Division (BMD), a well-established supplier of construction and industrial materials, has embarked on a major expansion plan that will see new branches opened in Saudi Arabia in the next two years, thereby extending its supply chain throughout the kingdom.
The plan is part of an ambitious programme to cover all areas of Saudi Arabia so that clients throughout the kingdom have access to its products.
In line with this initiative, the company opened new branches last year and in the first quarter of this year, living up to its 60-year track record of successfully meeting demands at all levels of the country’s construction sector, according to Bassel Al Shafei, marketing supervisor.
To date, the company has more than 50 branches throughout Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Jordan and Sudan, supported by a 900-strong workforce.

Al Rashed BMD supplies materials to all major players in the construction industry including Al Mansoria, Marbu, Alarrab, Al Khodari Group, Saudi Binladin Group, Saad Group and CCC (Consolidated Contractors Company). It has supplied its diverse range of products to some of the prestigious developments in the kingdom, its most recent projects being the King Abdullah Financial District, Princess Nora University, King Abdul-Aziz University expansion, Al Rawda Hospital, Al Jazeera clinic, University of Hafr Al Bateen, and several malls in Jeddah, Riyadh, Al Khobar and Madinah. Apart from projects in Saudi Arabia, it has also supplied to The Heritage Village and the New Doha Airport project, both in Doha, Qatar.
Part of the Rashid Al Rashed and Sons Group, Al Khobar-based Al Rashed BMD was established in 1950 and caters to a wide range of industries including construction, household appliances and steel fabrication.
Its expansive product line includes: commercial steel, comprising a wide range of high-quality steel beams and merchant bars such as IPEAA, IPE, HEA, HEB, beams, angle, flat and plain bars; a broad range of coils and sheets – cold and hot rolled, hot-dipped galvanised and electro-galvanised, chequered steel sheet, galvanised iron (GI) pre-painted corrugated sheets, aluminium sheets, stainless steel sheet and galvanised grating; and high-quality steel pipes and tubes – black and galvanised.
“We are also main distributors for Hadeed flat products,” he says.
Apart from trading in metal products, Al Rashed BMD offers a full range of hardwood species in most dimensions – red oak, white ash, cherry, walnut, maple, beech, Burmese and African teak, mahogany, Wawa, Meranti and Swedish redwood; wood-based panels – ordinary plywood, blockboard, film-faced plywood, fancy plywood, blockboard with veneer/melamine; as well as soft wood mainly used in the construction and industrial sectors.
“We are heavily involved in the marketing of whitewood of various origins to match customer requirements,” Al Shafei says.
The company also markets miscellaneous items such as fences, T&B wires, expanded sheet, pipe support, scaffolding, welding electrodes, nails, plastic sheets, fibreglass insulation, bitumen boards and polystyrene sheets.
To ensure the availability of products, the company sources high-quality products from around the world. In addition to local products, it also imports products from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas, mainly from Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, South Africa, Italy, Hungary, Spain, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Egypt, India, the US, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Myanmar.
“We pride ourselves on our broad distribution network, availability, quality and prompt delivery of our products, as well as our extensive product knowledge and price competitiveness,” he concludes.
