The Middle East office of Dow Chemical Company has recently launched Dowlex PE-RT (polyethylene of raised temperature resistance), a class of polyethylene that can be used for pipe applications in the high temperatures prevalent in the Middle East.
The launch was made at the recent Middle East Plastic Pipes conference in Dubai, when the company showcased its diverse plastic pipes portfolio, which has been become available in the Middle East.
The plastic and pipe conference, which hosted 150 of the leading regional and international pipe producers and installers, saw Detlef Schramm, application technology leader for pipe and geomembrane, Dow Europe, giving a comprehensive and indepth presentation on polyethylene of raised temperature resistance and the advantages and application usage of this product by showcasing its strong performance reviews and results.
PE-RT resins deliver higher performance and processability and have a wide variety of applications in blown and cast film, extrusion coatings, injection moulding and roto-moulding. In addition, they have become a material of choice for hot and cold water pipes PE-RT, membranes, and other durable goods, he says.
“Dowlex PE-RT resins have, internationally, a proven track record of more than 25 years for delivering outstanding performance in pipe applications,” says Zuhair Allawi, commercial director, India, Middle East and Africa (IMEA) region. “More than 1 million km of pipes have now been produced using Dowlex PE-RT resins.”
“With consumption for pipe and conduit applications projected to grow in the Middle East at 9.1 per cent annually between 2006 and 2011, Dow is committed to supplying and supporting the needs of the pipe industry of the region,” he adds.
A highly innovative application, PE-RT resins can be found in many pipe structures, including multi-layer and monolithic pipes, which are set to transform the hot and cold water pipe market.
“Dowlex PE-RT resins from Dow are suitable for diverse applications such as floor heating, drinking water distribution, industrial pipes, solar panels, snow melting systems and many more. The resins have an environmentally-friendly stabilisation package and are compliant with most drinking water regulations worldwide,” he says.
Dow, a global leader in plastics, has manufacturing sites in five continents which allows it to supply high quality materials to pipe manufacturers around the world.
