A Dh26.8 million ($7.29 million) beautification project for Port Saeed area, known as Port Saeed Plaza, has received the approval from the Dubai Municipality.
“This project is unique and first of its kind undertaken by Dubai Municipality in the central business districts of the city,” said Hussain Nasser Lootah, acting director general of Dubai Municipality.
“It effectively puts to use a total of 13,893 sq m for the benefit of the residents in a busy neighbourhood.”
He noted that works of the project would begin very soon and would take approximately a year to complete.
The work will involve the demolition of the existing temporary car park area and construction of a plaza which includes shaded multi-purpose space that can be used on festive occasions and celebrations, an open-air stage which can host musical events, exhibitions, folk-performances, heritage activities, a function lawn, shaded play areas, water features and a 200-m jogging track.
Meanwhile, work on the Dh10 million ($2.73 million) neighbourhood park in Mirdif could be completed early this month, says a spokesman for the Dubai Municipality.
Once completed, the park would provide residents 15,500 sq m of place to relax.
“Construction of the park, with a total area of 1.55 hectares is progressing as scheduled,” said Lootah.
He said the park would meet requirements of the area’s residents for recreational facilities.
Palm trees are being planted to provide shade, and different types of shrubs and flowers will form a colourful ambiance.
He added that the park includes several facilities and features such as play grounds for children, a main play area for football, basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts, a main plaza with shaded sitting areas, and a vast green area.
