Mammut’s Rashidiya site.

Mammut Building Systems (MBS) has been awarded two contracts to construct two auxiliary depots for the Dubai Metro project in Al Rashidiya and Jebel Ali.

The contract was awarded by Dubai Rapid Link (DURL), the main contractor on the project.
MBS – a subsidiary of Emaar Industries & Investments (EII) and one of the region’s largest manufacturers of pre-engineered steel buildings (PEBs) and polyurethane-injected sandwich panels – will build multi-span and clear-span buildings using high strength steel with a total built-up area of 109,000 sq m. More than 1,900 tonnes of steel will be used in the construction of the buildings in Jebel Ali and over 4,000 tonnes will be used in Al Rashidiya.
Dr Ahmad Khayyat, chief executive officer, EII, says: “The contract for building auxiliary depots illustrates the strong inroads made by the company following its partnership with EII. MBS is a market leader in pre-engineered steel buildings – a technology that is fast gaining ground in the region for its cost-effectiveness and durability.”
MBS, a division of Mammut Group, claims to be the first company in the world to create three-dimensional drawing for all its buildings thus achieving zero per cent detailing errors.
“We have extensive expertise in undertaking complex structures and our contract for the prestigious Dubai Metro project enables us to be part of a landmark infrastructure development in the region,” says Bob Webster, managing director, MBS.
“The deal further cements our reputation as the leader in PEBs, and underscores our capabilities to undertake complex and large-scale projects,” Webster adds.
MBS, established in 1997, provides PEB applications for factories, cold stores, distribution centres, warehouses, workshops, exhibition halls, showrooms, aircraft hangars, worker accommodation, supermarkets and shopping malls.
EII, which acquired a majority stake in MBS, is assisting the firm in its plans to raise production capacity from 6,000 tonnes per month (tpm) to 12,000 tpm, and build a structural steel division.
