
Forrec in $3bn Qatar project
Abu Dhabi Investment House (ADIH) has appointed Forrec as the leisure and attraction consultant for Entertainment City Qatar (ECQ).
The $3 billion ECQ is being developed within Lusail Development Project north of the Qatari capital, Doha.
According to the agreement, Forrec will provide strategic consultations on matters related to leisure and attraction in the Entertainment City project, including providing information on the different designs within the project, feasibility studies, operations, cost, and particularly the integration of these elements within the master plan of the project.
Forrec will also assist ADIH in selecting suitable operators to the different components of the project, attract investors, and identify marketing and promotion activities.
Oman launches $500m Green Acre
A joint venture of Oman-based Radiance International and Transmit Nanvang Engineering Construction (TNEC), a leading Malaysian developer and investor, will develop a $500 million recreational project in Muscat.
Called the Green Acre, the project is conceived as a sprawling tourism and recreational complex, with mixed development elements as well. It will be set up within the Muscat Governorate.
Significantly, the project’s concept is themed around family-oriented recreation, water-theme parks, golf course, driving range, golf academy and horse riding facilities envisaged. Billed as the biggest of its kind in the Gulf region, the Green Acre project will enhance Oman’s appeal as a tourist destination.
Saudi Arabia plans three resorts
The Saudi Government is set to launch three major resort projects this year, according to a top official.
The projects under consideration include the Red Sea coastal township of Al Rais, about 180 km southwest of Madinah, and the Al Oqair project in Jeddah.
Al Rais will be developed into a major tourist resort and the process for qualifying companies to develop the project is likely to be completed soon, Prince Sultan bin Salman, secretary-general of the Supreme Commission for Tourism, said.
Meanwhile, the government has already started the qualification process for Al Oqair project in Jeddah.
Samsung to build $691m plant
South Korea’s Samsung Engineering and Construction said it had won a 636.5 billion won ($691.7 million) order to build an ammonia facility for Saudi Arabian Mining Company.
Samsung said it would build the facility by December 2010.
