Dubai Review

All red and green

The Red Line
The Red Line runs elevated from Rashidiya to Al Garhoud through Dubai International Airport terminals. After serving Deira City Center and adjoining areas in Port Saeed, the line runs along Al Rigga Street to reach the transfer station at Union Square.

The line runs underground from Al Garhoud to Union Square till it crosses the creek close to Dubai Municipality building and the Intercontinental Hotel, serving the second underground transfer station at BurJuman. From Al Karama station, the line then runs elevated along the east of Sheikh Zayed Road, south of the World Trade Center Interchange and as far as Jebel Ali Port. The Red Line includes an elevated section of around 47.4 km with 28 elevated stations, one station at grade and an underground section of around 4.7 km with four stations, including the two transfer stations connecting the two lines.
The main depot, housing depot and rolling stock parking facilities for the two lines is located at the northern end of the Red Line, after the Rashidiya terminus. An auxiliary depot is planned at the back of the Jebel Ali Port terminus.

The Green Line
The Green Line starts elevated from Dubai Healthcare City, runs along the middle of Oud Metha Road and joins the Red Line at the transfer station Burjuman. The line then runs underground to Al Ghubaiba, crosses the creek close to Al Ras and serves the Deira Central Business District (CBD) before intersecting the Red Line again, at the transfer station Union Square. The Green Line curves along Salahuddin Road, runs elevated along Salahuddin Road and Al Ittihad Road, turns east along Al Nahda Road and terminates at the intersection with Damascus Road, close to the Dubai Airport Free Zone Area.
The Green Line includes an elevated section of around 10 km with eight stations and an underground section of around 7.6 km with six stations (excluding Union Square and BurJuman).

Stations
Most of the stations are elevated and one is at grade for the line end at Jebel Ali Port. Underground stations are mainly located in the CBD area, including the two transfer stations (Union Square and BurJuman).
All platforms are 85 m long, are equipped with platform screen doors , fully air conditioned and the stations accessible for disabled passengers from street to platform level.
For the elevated stations, two types are planned: concourse level at grade for type 1 and concourse level elevated for type 2. All the stations are coherently designed to contribute to the image of Dubai, representing the activities peacefully coexisting there: finance, tourism, trade and also culture.
For the design of the stations, great care has been taken to give users a pleasant environment, with easy and efficient traffic flow within the station. Throughout the network, the stations will become landmarks, timeless designs using high technology, but also modern user-friendly buildings.
