The elegant boat-shaped Etisalat Tower located at the Dubai Trade Centre roundabout in Dubai is being dressed up in 10,000 sq m of high-performance EmiCool Sun NN35 green glass supplied by Emirates Glass, a Dubai Investments subsidiary and a leading producer of premium architectural high-performance glass products.
The prestigious project is expected to be completed shortly.
“The EmiCool Sun NN35 green, chosen for the Etisalat Tower project, will add considerably to the attractive appearance of the design,” says Jerry Dowling, Emirates Glass general manager.
All the curtain wall and window glazing of the Emirates Telecommunication Corporation’s Etisalat Tower, which will be covered in EmiCool Sun green glass, will allow a generous transmission of light with low internal reflection, giving the appearance of clear or tinted glass when viewed from inside.
Besides the Etisalat order, Emirates Glass has also won orders totalling 134,000 sq m so far this year for its various architectural glass products.
The EmiCool Sun NN series has been developed using a range of Low-E coatings, which have a neutral silver appearance when applied onto clear and tinted float glass substrates. The EmiCool Sun range offered with four coating options provides a multifunctional capability with good solar resistance and excellent thermal insulation.
All Emirates Glass’ products, including EmiCool Classic, EmiCool Sun, EmiCoo lPlus and EmiCool Super E2 coated glass, are produced according to ASTM C 1376-97 specifications, says Dowling.
“Time and again Emirates Glass has been able to successfully secure prestigious orders on the back of the dependable high quality of our products,” says Dowling.
The company says its products meet the strict quality standards of Dubai Municipality, whilst most of them fully comply with the municipality’s latest energy-saving requirements.
“Most of the recently announced high-profile projects have chosen architectural glass products from Emirates Glass. We have been able to meet the huge recent additional demand for our products because of our substantial investment in new equipment during the past year,” says Dowling.
Earlier this year, the firm had bagged a landmark order to supply 66,000 sq m of its Emicool glass for the Burj Residence projects in Dubai.
The company has already supplied 30,000 sq m of EmiCool Sun NN46 Green glass for Burj Residence Phase 1 and 16,000 sq m of EmiCool Sun NN50 Blue Green glass for Phase 2. It is now supplying 20,000 sq m of its Emicool Sun NN60 Grey glass to Burj Residence Phase 3, which is expected to be completed during late summer this year. All the structures are located at the Burj Dubai Precinct.
“That the prestigious Burj Precinct, built around the Burj Dubai, the world’s tallest tower, has chosen Emirates Glass products indicates the confidence of the developers and their consultants in the company as a world-class quality glass-maker. Time and again, we have proved that our products have the quality and performance to meet the high engineering and quality standards required to meet the harsh environmental conditions imposed by the Gulf climate,” says Dowling.
“We are very proud that architects and professionals from many parts of the world are specifying Emirates Glass products,” he remarks, “and our reputation is growing steadily.”
Emirates Glass, will also supply a total of 50,000 sq m of its EmiCool range to two other prestigious projects in Dubai - 34,000 sq m of its 8 mm EmiCool CR14 Blue Green for the curtain wall and EmiCool NN35 Clear for the windows for the Park Place Tower project on Sheikh Zayed Road, opposite Dubai World Trade Centre and 16,000 sq m of its 8mm EmiCool Sun NN60 Solar Control Green glass for the Harbour Plaza project, close to Garhoud Bridge at the Dubai Festival City.
“These orders confirm the wide acceptance of our premium quality products, which are made especially to suit the harsh environmental conditions imposed by the Gulf climate. Our diverse range of glass is ideal for most glazing applications. The ever-increasing number of major orders which Emirates Glass has been receiving is a good indication of our market strength and our ability to provide energy-saving glass fully compliant with ‘Green Building’ principles,” says Dowling.
“More and more architects and industry professionals prefer EmiCool products from Emirates Glass because of our very wide range and the adaptability of EmiCool glass to the demands of the market.
It also recently inked a contract for the supply of 4,000 sq m of its EmiCoolSun multi-functional Low E glass to Folcra Beach Aluminium Company for the Imperial College of London Diabetes Center building, which will be one of the first buildings in Abu Dhabi to have a double-skinned façade structure.
The regional market leader in high-quality glass products is also targeting a major slice of the more than $40 billion worth of airport expansion projects currently under way.
“Such massive investments give us an ideal opportunity to seek our share of the expanding regional market,” says Ziad Yazbeck, director of sales and marketing, Emirates Glass.
At the Airport Build and Supply exhibition held in June, the company showcased its diverse range of Emicool Sun and EmiCool Super E2 Low-E glass products, which offer airport designers optimal solutions for their prime requirements without neglecting the value of aesthetic design. The company’s recent innovations in all aspects of glass production, including construction, fabrication and the use of façade technology were also on display, including its latest scratchproof and easy-to-clean translucent Charmline glass.
Charmline has a chemically-treated outer surface with a beautiful, distinctive translucent finish, which can greatly enhance the aesthetic appearance of architectural glass facades.
“This new product adds another significant feature to our existing product line. Currently, we offer our EmiCool range of energy-efficient solar-control glass in various ranges to suit the needs of the market in terms of performance and appearance. We are sure that the attractive and unique features of Charmline will elevate and strengthen our status as a major international player in the glass industry,” says Dowling.
Charmline glass is described as being an ideal choice for spandrel glazing where there is an aesthetic requirement to provide a material in contrast to the vision glazing. Charmline is scratch-proof, does not attract dust and provides a fine elegant satin finish. In window-glazing, Charmline can be installed as a sun-breaker to diffuse solar glare or it can be used internally in partitions to give privacy with light.
“We see good market opportunities for Charmline as a new medium for aesthetic expression in building facades,” says Dowling. “In addition to a good range of colours – extra clear, clear, green, blue, bronze, grey and pink - it is the easy-to-clean feature of Charmline that makes it so attractive. The unique surface treatment of Charmline does not attract dirt, but any small dust accumulation can be easily removed with clean water and nothing more. It is very easy to maintain.” he says.
The EmiCool range of high-performance sputter-coated reflective glass is available in a huge range of coatings and tint-options to create a true “rainbow-range” that is capable of meeting the requirements of almost every architectural style and building-type throughout the Gulf and far beyond in Europe and Asia. It has been used on a multitude of the largest projects throughout the UAE and the introduction of Charmline by Emirates Glass presents new opportunities in glazing to further satisfy a growing demand from architects and developers for innovative and attractive glass products to enhance their designs.
Emirates Glass is now entrenched as a major supplier of energy-efficient glass products throughout the Middle East and beyond. Its markets stretch over a huge geographical area - from the UK, Europe and Russia to Singapore in Asia.
With a product range that suits every individual customer’s requirements, Emirates Glass has strongly expanded its market share over the years. The company continues to supply its glass products to various regional and international clients who prefer to stay with Emirates Glass for its strict adherence to delivery schedule and guaranteed performance.
