Qatar's Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture has invited contractors to prequalify for the QR1.6 billion ($440 million) Hamad Medical City project.
The project covers an area of 36.5 hectares beside the Hamad Medical Centre on Ahmad bin Ali Street.
The project comprises two packages. The first package consists of a 1,000-bed hospital for paediatric, orthopaedic, dialysis and trauma treatment. It is also expected to have a nursing home and a surgery centre.
The second package will consist of residential and office buildings, mosques, clubs and parking lots. This package will be tendered in several pieces.
The project awaits clearance of the plan given by Fedcon of Thailand. According to Mohammed Talib, engineer with Hill International, the project manager, the bids are expected to be opened by mid-September, pending clearance of the project plan by August 15. Work is expected to commence by December and be completed by December 2005.
The total built-up area of the buildings is more than 400,000 sq m. The parking area will provide space for 3,000 cars.
