Sitra complex gets go-ahead
Manama:
A contract has been signed to start work on a BD10 million ($26.5 million) commercial complex in Sitra.

The three-storey centre is described as a replica of the Seef Mall in Seef District and will cover an area of 46,000 sq m.
It will be built by Ahmed Mansoor Al A'Ali Construction Company and is scheduled to be completed in April 2005. The consultant architect and planner is Yousif Dawood Al Sayegh.
The three-storey mall will have a sea view - making it one-of-a-kind on the island - and will accommodate a parking lot that can take up to 900 cars.

Deal for marine science college
Kuwait City:
Kuwait University has awarded the consultancy contract for the construction of a college of marine science to a team of the local Gulf Consult with Cambridge 7 of the  US.
Prequalification bids for the KD11.9 million ($40 million) college located near the coastguard headquarters at Fintas  in Kuwait were due to be submitted by the end of last month. 
The project calls for the construction of a three-storey building, a 500-slot car-park, infrastructure works, dredging to a depth of 500 m in the sea and backfilling. The overall area covers 30,000-sq m.
The 33-month project is likely to start in October.

Alstom to work on Alba power plant
Manama:
Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) has appointed Alstom as its engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the power-station portion of its Line 5 Project in Bahrain at a recent signing ceremony.
The $337 million Line 5 power station project is part of the $1.7 billion Line 5 expansion due for completion by February 2005.
Under this contract, Alstom will manage the various contracts and procurements of the Line 5 power station to meet the programme and budget targets previously agreed between the two parties. Alstom will be required to complete the electrical, mechanical and civil design of Power Station 4 as well as supply the electrical and control equipment for the power station, such as transformers, switchgear and cabling.

New HQ for Muscat governorate
Muscat:
Oman's Minister of State and Governor of Muscat, Sayyid Al Mutassim bin Hamoud Al Busaidi has signed an agreement worth RO2.7 million ($7 million) with the Abu Hatim group to build the governorate's new building.
The new building in Muscat city will be built on an area of 12,740 sq m. It will include all departments and directorates and the Wali of Muscat's office. The project is due for completion in November 2004.ÿÿ
