Flowcrete, which recently launched its unit in the Jebel Ali Free Zone, plans to set up a manufacturing plant in Dubai in the near future to cope with the increased demand for its products.
The UK-based Flowcrete is a market leader in industrial flooring, specialist flooring screeds and car-park decking systems.
Speaking on the launch of Flowcrete Middle East FZC, newly-appointed managing director Ian Dawson says: " This new commitment to the Middle East will bring its market leading, cutting edge flooring solutions to the market, backed by local technical support and application expertise."
The company first started to develop its business in the Middle East following the company's success in Asia with prestigious projects such as the Petronas Malaysia Formula 1 Grand Prix stadium and the international airports at both Kuala Lumpur and Chek Lap Kok Airport in Hong Kong. Initially the company worked with business partner Pegasus Contracting Company in Sharjah, which worked as a sole agent and an official applicator of Flowcrete flooring and car park decking products within the UAE.
" Following the successful partnership with Pegasus in completing a number of prestigious projects including the recently completed car-park decking works at the Deira City Centre in Dubai, Flowcrete recognised the time was right for committing further investment and support to its business in the UAE and throughout the Middle East," says Dawson.
Pegasus Contracting will continue to work as the specialist contractor for the company in the UAE, and further partners are currently being sourced to cover Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and India, he says.
The company will offer three main product ranges to the Middle Eastern market, allowing access to cutting edge, high specification products used in prestigious applications throughout the world. They are:
When Abu Dhabi Municipality was building the new Sector E4 Car-Park in Abu Dhabi last year, it needed a waterproof membrane system that would protect the new concrete structure throughout the two-storey 24,000 sq m area.
"Deckshield was selected as the ideal product for use on the project due it its proven track record for car-park flooring excellence and for its BBA-approved status. The elastomeric solvent-free Deckshield crack-bridging system was applied directly to the precast concrete to all floor levels of the car-park using coloured finished coats to colour code aisles and parking bays. The result is a lightweight, protective, aesthetically pleasing non-slip finish throughout the building," says Dawson.
The same system was also used for a similar project for the Oasis Tower Car-Park in Dubai and for the basement car-park at the new offices of Bu Haleeba.
"When the chiller areas of the Kuwait Food Company in Sharjah needed refurbishing due to the inability of the existing floor to withstand the constant trolley and foot traffic, the new flooring solution had to be solvent-free to be suitable for this working area of the building and extremely durable to cope with the level of traffic. Pegasus Contracting specified Flowcrete MF and Flowpol SBR. The existing screed was dug up and replaced with Flowpol screed which was then topped with Flowcrete MF, chosen for its durability. Flowcrete MF also incorporates the antimicrobial additive Ultra-Fresh, making it ideal for this type of environment," says Dawson. The products were also used for Abu Dhabi Airport Catering's kitchen floor.
