TeknCoat is a specialist in insulation, energy-saving and water- proofing and can provide total solutions to the construction industry. TeknCoat's systems start protecting a structure as soon as piling works are done, right up to waterproofing of the roof.
Pile Heads
The surface of the pile head is completely cleaned of dust and debris and made dry (preferably with a compressor) by the main contractor. Any cracks are filled with Technofiller and allowed to cure for 24 hours. A coat of R1 is applied evenly over the complete surface and allowed to cure for 5 to 6 hours followed by another coat (R2) and a geotextile (Fybex) is fixed and allowed to cure for 24 hours. A final coat of R2 is applied and allowed to cure for 24 hours. The Fybex material is tucked in the groove and sealed with Technofiller.
Basement Waterproofing
In normal construction practice, where contiguous piles are constructed for shoring works, that is, when excavation work is completed to the required level, the surface of the contiguous piles are sandblasted and made dust-free to receive the gunite material to form an even surface. This is allowed to cure for a minimum of four days with water being sprayed regularly. On completion of the curing, the surface is allowed to dry and at this stage, TeknCoat products are used.
A coating (R1) is evenly applied and allowed to cure for 4 to 6 hours. A second coating (R2) is applied and Fybex is fixed while the coat is still tacky and allowed to cure for 24 hours. A final coating (R2) is applied evenly on the complete surface and allowed to cure for 24 hours.
Construction of the reinforced concrete (RC) wall can then proceed after the certification by a TeknCoat engineer. Any damages occurring during the fixing of reinforcement shall be rectified using the same materials but care should be taken to provide sufficient overlap around the affected areas.
A protective coating (W1) is applied over the dry cured surface of the RC wall, that is, from inside the basement. TeknCoat also provides a weatherproof textured paint which can be applied over the coat for final finishes.
The horizontal surface of the basement floor can be similarly protected and sealed.
TeknCoat protection starts from the blinding stage. Once the blinding is thoroughly dry and has cured, a coating (R1) is applied evenly and allowed to cure for 4 to 6 hours. A second and final coat (R2) is applied over the complete surface and allowed to cure for 24 hours.
Work on the RC pile caps or the raft slab or the basement slab can then proceed after taking necessary protective measures over the coated surface, the protection being in the form of a screed or protection board.
A protective coating (P1) is applied over the complete surface of the basement slab and the grit shall be evenly spread and allowed to cure for 4 to 6 hours. A final coating (P2) is applied and allowed to cure for 24 hours. Road and parking bays marking can then be done, after certification from the engineer that the treatment is satisfactory.
Wet area floors/walls
The concrete substrate is made dust-free and Technofiller is applied to all cracks and edges and allowed to cure for 24 hours. Technofix is applied over the edges of the PVC pipes, sleeves, etc. The vertical surface is coated completely with W1 and fine sand spread when it is still tacky. Fybex is fixed all around the edges with R2 and allowed to cure for 24 hours. A coating of B1 is applied for the remaining horizontal area and allowed to cure for 5 to 6 hours, followed by another coating of B2 and applied evenly over the entire surface and allowed to cure for 24 hours. Water tests must then be conducted to be sure of the protection.
Roof Waterproofing
The concrete substrate is made thoroughly dust-free and Technofiller is applied to all angle fillets and cracks. A coating (R1) is applied over the surface and allowed to cure for 5 to 6 hours followed by another (R2) and allowed to cure for 24 hours.
An interim water test is carried out to assess the watertightness of the slab. In case of any leakages, the areas are localised and treated to make sure the roof is watertight before the foam concreting operations start.
After foam concreting, angle fillets are once again treated with Technofiller and allowed to cure for 24 hours. A coating (R2) is applied and Fybex is fixed, which is allowed to cure for 24 hours. Good care is taken to make sure a minimum overlap of 150 mm exists and all overlaps are coated with R2.
A final insulative coat (W2) is evenly applied and allowed to cure for 24 hours. Water test shall be conducted at the discretion of the engineer in charge and the normal protection system can follow on after TeknCoat certification.
