ENGINEERING consultancy and support services group WS Atkins has won a three-year contract worth in excess of £70 million ($108 million) from the Qatar Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning to support delivery of its multi-billion-dollar transport and infrastructure programmes.
These programmes underpin Qatar’s 2030 vision for world-class infrastructure development. Under the contract, Atkins will establish a central planning office (CPO) to co-ordinate current and planned road, rail, metro and other major transport and infrastructure projects, including elements associated with the Fifa 2022 (Federation Internationale de Football Association) World Cup.
Last November, Atkins secured a five-year contract worth $101 million to improve roads and drainage in Qatar’s capital Doha.
