RTA rolls out ‘save it’ plan
DUBAI’S Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) is to implement a programme that will aim to save power consumption of street lighting systems in the residential areas of Dubai. A team comprising experts and specialist engineers from various affiliated sectors and agencies rolled out last month a well-defined action plan to save power in residential areas with the exception of some key localities due to their critical importance in ensuring smooth traffic flow as well as the safety and security of road users in those areas.
Mohammed Abdullah Al Ali, the head of RTA’s energy-saving team, and director of buildings and facilities, said the measures will include switching off about 40 per cent of total lighting poles in each residential district. However, the rate will vary from one district to another based on several perimeters including the area of the district, and the number of lighting poles in place among others.
