VANIR Construction Management has invited expressions of interest from qualified contractors for major expansion work on the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH&RC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The project will expand and enhance patient care in the areas of pediatrics, cardiology, oncology, neuro-sciences and clinical research. Bid announcement is expected this month (August).

“The expansion programme will increase the bed count to approximately 850 beds and will consist of an interconnected campus including a research and academic affairs centre and oncology centre, and support facilities,” said a spokesman for Vanir Construction Management, which offers quality construction management services to clients across the US and internationally.

The research and academic affairs centre, the major component of the hospital, which will cover an approximate area of 195,000 sq m. Two 15- and 18-storey towers for patients and a 24-storey research and academic affairs centre, will be built over a six-storey diagnostic and treatment podium. This facility will include pediatric, cardiology, neuro-sciences and clinical research centres, diagnostic imaging, pathology, 30 operating theatres, 150 intensive care units, outpatient clinics and emergency treatment.

The 25,000-sq-m oncology centre will provide full radiation therapy, infusion therapy and in-patient treatment in an eight-storey tower. The complex will also include a central utility plant and parking structure and medical support/logistics building covering 65,000-sq-m; and the medical support/logistics building, which will cover 25,000 sq m. The project involves a total site development of approximately 350,000 sq m.
