HAYA Water has completed installation of 1,000 km of pipes in the Seeb area as part of the company’s state-of-the-art water reuse project in Muscat, Oman.
The project, which will ultimately connect over 30,000 homes, offices and commercial premises in Seeb to a modern, efficient and odour-free water reuse network, is part of the wider system that Haya Water is building for the whole of the Muscat Governorate.
It is one of the largest civil engineering projects ever undertaken in the sultanate and is dedicated to ensuring a “Greener and Cleaner Muscat”. When completed, more than 80 per cent of Muscat residents will be connected directly to the new modern system.
In Seeb, a new modern water treatment plant is under construction with a capacity of 80,000 cu m of treated effluent per day – and of a size to allow it to cope with the rapid expansion in both commercial and residential developments in the area.
Overall, the Seeb development is now more than 63 per cent complete with pipeline infrastructure work well developed across every part of the wilayat.
“Seeb is one of the biggest and most important schemes in the overall Muscat water reuse project,” said Omar Al Wahaibi, Haya Water CEO.
“Treated effluent can be used for irrigation and watering of public amenities like parks and other public areas and by reusing waste water produced in the Muscat Governorate we will reduce the pressure on the scarce underground water reserves or the need to use treated desalinated water,” he added.
The overall Muscat water reuse project comprises six major developments that include Seeb, Bausher, Muscat, Muttrah, Amerat and Quriyat. Each one of these projects will have at its heart a new modern water treatment plant that has been designed to the highest and most advanced international standards. Every plant will use one of the world’s best technologies – membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology – to ensure that the highest quality of treated water, free of pollutants.
