THE Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has given the go-ahead for the construction of a new 100,000-seat mega stadium near Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport.

“The king wants to establish the proposed stadium in a place close to Jeddah and near the airport,” said Prince Nawaf bin Faisal, head of the Youth Welfare Presidency.

The King is also expected to give the go-ahead for the expansion of the Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium in the city, acording to Prince Nawaf.  He said work on the two projects would start soon and architects were already working on the new stadium’s design.

The stadium is part of the King Abdullah Sports City, which will have a specialist hospital, indoor stadiums and youth hostels.
