Merger magic

MAJOR developments are under way at Almutlaq Projects Company (AMPC), where the recent merger of its member companies Saudi Industrial and Technical Services (Sisco) and Almutlaq Services and Manufacturing Company (Asmac) has created a force to reckon with in the Saudi market.

Leveraging the synergy created by the recent merger, Sisco is expanding the range of energy solutions it offers with a particular focus on renewable energy. In line with these efforts, the company has recently been appointed the authorised agent for the Hawaii-based Sopogy Solar Solutions, which offers innovative and scalable solar solutions enabling cost-effective distributed generation of electricity, process heating and solar air-conditioning in a single system.

Sisco has been offering boilers and pumps for many years through exclusive agencies.

“Sopogy has pioneered a new approach to concentrating solar power (CSP) called MicroCSP, a highly modular and scalable technology that is particularly suitable for distributed generation in the range of 250 to 500 kW. This is a new product in the Saudi market,” says Raed Allaham, general manager of AMPC.

Sisco has been offering the Saudi market environment-friendly and energy-efficient products such as boilers and pumps for many years through exclusive agencies. As an authorised agent for Cleaver Brooks, Sisco offers steam and hot water boilers that can reduce fuel costs and associated carbon-based emissions by as much as 40 per cent for the Saudi process industry, according to Allaham.

“The solution package includes an integral fire-tube boiler, advanced controls and a uniquely-designed economiser for unsurpassed fuel to steam efficiency,” he says.

Cleaver Brooks’ range of products includes conventional horizontal fire-tube boilers and water-tube boilers, electric steam/hot water boilers, industrial-type steam boilers, and heat recovery boilers.

Meanwhile, as an authorised agent for Zeilfelder Pumps from Germany, Sisco can provide gear pumps for most applications, including explosion-proof and seal-less pumps for the petrochemical industry, pumps for the pharmaceutical and food industry, and high-pressure pumps.

“For more than 80 years now, Zeilfelder has been designing and producing perfect pumps to cover all needs,” he says.
Sisco also offers heat exchangers, pressure vessels and tanks from Taeyang Heavy Industry of Korea.

Sisco was founded in 1978 to provide services and solutions and meet the industrial requirements of major manufacturing sectors, health institutions, hotels, and petrochemical companies in Saudi Arabia. Over the years, the company has grown to become a premier engineering and contracting company specialising in heat transfer, oil and gas infrastructure, pumps, transformers, power generation, water management systems, industrial maintenance and repair services and other industrial projects.

Its product range includes heat transfer solutions, power generation equipment and tools, water management solutions, oil and gas instrumentation, engineering design and consultation, and industrial maintenance services.

Following its merger with Asmac, the company has recently launched production of electric control panels, cabling solutions and steel fabrication fields.

The fabrication division of Asmac – now a subsidiary of Sisco – is considered one of the leading manufacturers in its field with advanced capability in the production of low-voltage systems as well as an established marketing network throughout the kingdom, and a highly-experienced workforce.

“The merger of Sisco and Asmac has enhanced the capabilities for both companies and enables us to provide our customers with better services and products,” says Allaham.

Allaham continues: “Sisco’s production facilities are equipped with the latest machinery and equipment to produce state-of-the-art products under the management of highly experienced engineers.”

Sisco is also a qualified and professional third-party inspection company, undertaking inspection for oil and gas pipelines, oil mechanical equipment, anti-corrosion coating, steel structure, boiler, pressure vessel, and electrical equipment, and also providing maintenance and repair services. Its workshops are located in Al Khobar, Riyadh and Jeddah.

Zeilfelder Pumps ... in production for over 80 years.

Sisco counts among its clients a number of construction contractors that work on public sector projects, industrial centres including plants and factories; commercial entities such as hotels, laundry services; the Ministry of Health and private health facilities; Saudi Aramco; Saudi Electricity Company (SEC); and ACWA in the water sector.

Among the many projects executed by the company in Saudi Arabia are the Al Hada Hospital, King Fahad University of Petroleum and Mineral (KFUPM), Al Majarda, Al Namaz, Al Shorora and Billasmar general hospitals and King Khaled University’s Phase Two expansion.

For the Al Hada Hospital, an armed forces medical facility in Taif, Sisco supplied and installed three boilers and utility pipelines, heat exchangers, pressure tanks and utility pipelines, and 32 medium-voltage dry and oil-filled transformers and switchgear, in addition to carrying out construction works.

For the KFUPM project in Al Khobar, the company supplied and installed two boilers and utility pipelines, while for the Al Majarda, Al Namaz, Al Shorora and Billasmar hospitals in the Southern Province, it supplied and installed calorifiers and utility pipelines. Meanwhile, the firm supplied and installed 11 boilers, utility pipelines and electro-mechanical equipment at King Khaled University’s Phase Two project in Abha.

Among the challenging projects it has been involved with are a security forces hospital in Riyadh to which it supplied and installed four boilers and utility pipelines and a project for the Al Safi Danone Company, which required re-location of utility pipelines.

Allaham believes that the Saudi market offers ample potential for growth. “This boom will continue into the coming year – it is amazing to see so many major projects here in Saudi Arabia, such as the King Abdullah Financial District, Princess Nora University for Women, Rabigh Industrial City and Jubail Industrial City Phase Three, among others,” he comments.
