QATARI Diar Vinci Construction (QDVC) has been awarded a QR1.22 billion ($335 million) contract to design and build an underground car-park in West Bay financial and diplomatic district of Doha, Qatar’s capital city.

The car-park, with a capacity for 2,000 vehicles, will be located in front of the Sheraton Doha hotel and will be fitted with an electronic system to notify motorists of vacant spaces, which will be a first in Qatar.

The works include construction of a maintenance and storage facility and a control room for the future Doha light rail transit system, a 66 kV electrical substation, two 11 kV substations, and a 73,000-sq-m landscaped park in front of the Sheraton hotel. Also included in the project is the construction of a cut-and-cover tunnel under Corniche Road that will connect the car-park and the new Qatar National Convention Centre, which is currently under construction.
Construction work is to last 34 months.
