CONSTRUCTION work on a two-lane carriageway flyover and dual three-lane carriageway underpass along Sheikh Salman Highway at Isa Town Gate in Bahrain is progressing as per schedule, said a top government official.
“The work on the West flyover is now in progress, following a number of technical difficulties that temporarily delayed the installation of concrete blocks. Half of the flyover is now completed,” said Essam Khalaf, assistant undersecretary for roads at the Ministry of Works.
This follows the completion of implementing a temporary traffic diversion at the work site, in order to allow the contractor to proceed with works related to the construction of the underpass, Khalaf revealed. The contractor will soon complete the installation of the pillars for the East flyover, he added.
The primary objective of the Isa Town Gate Interchange project is to relieve the considerable traffic congestion currently prevalent at the Isa Town Gate Roundabout, where Sheikh Salman Highway is intercepted by Al Estiqlal Highway and Baghdad Avenue. The project involves upgrading of the existing roundabout into a three-level grade-separated interchange.
The major works consist of the construction of two-lane dual carriageway flyovers, a three-lane dual carriageway underpass, at-grade bridge and the new Isa Town Gate monument.
