A GLOBAL leader in pre-engineered steel buildings (PEBs) and steel structures, Kirby Building Systems enjoys a high profile in Abu Dhabi, executing prestige projects across the emirate in the UAE while educating the trade on the merits of its systems.
“Part of Kuwait’s Alghanim Industries, Kirby is very active in Abu Dhabi with a local sales office to supports all its customers’ needs,” says Kirby’s Middle East and Africa (MEA) general manager Wael Elqadah.
He continues: “Among the prestigious projects Kirby has recently undertaken in Abu Dhabi is the Al Fahim Car Park at Mussafah. State-of-the-art engineering has been used to build this six-storeyed structure, more than 1,000 tonnes of steel.
This multi-storey car-park is uniquely constructed with parking on both sides of its wings, Elqadah adds.
Kirby is a registered vendor to oil majors such as Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and Takreer and as the market recovers in the UAE, Elqadah sees great promise in Abu Dhabi with “huge investments being planned in infrastructure across the industrial and oil and gas sectors”.
Earlier this year, Kirby organised a technical seminar for the trade at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahar hotel in Abu Dhabi. Held under the theme of ‘Steel Solutions’, the event brought together more than 85 contractors, consultants and certified builders from the construction industry in the emirate. At the event, Kirby showcased its product range through a technical and commercial presentation.

Elqadah presented an overview of Kirby in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena), showcasing several of major projects in the UAE and the rest of the region.
Kirby’s director of engineering and sales support Alaeddin Jarrar then conducted a technical session on the steel building solutions provided by Kirby through its product range, which adopts the latest engineering codes and manufacturing techniques. He also highlighted unique products such as curved built-up members and open web joists that showcased Kirby’s engineering and manufacturing prowess, pointing out that none of these products, if ordered, would delay the supply of the building as they formed an integral part of the entire project.
Kirby’s sister company Kuwait Insulating Material Manufacturing Company (Kimmco) also made a presentation at the event with senior technical manager Kailash Chandra speaking on the need and benefits of insulation and its effect on people’s everyday lives.
These presentations were followed by an open house between the speakers and participants. Among the major customers and consultants that attended the seminar were Aldar, Gulf Automation Services & Oilfield Supplies (Gasos), Amana Steel, and Systems Construct.
“With this new initiative of conducting technical seminars across the MEA, Kirby’s marketing and sales team is upbeat as we are able to reach out to many key customers in the market,” says Ashish Gurnani, the company’s marketing manager for the Middle East, adding that details of the events are available at www.kirbyinternational.com.
Among other initiatives, Kirby also participated at the Arab Construction Week which was held earlier this year in Abu Dhabi, sharing a booth with Kimmco.
